Problem: Black entrepreneurs in Portland have been hit the hardest by recent small business lending drops.
Solution: I connected with a local entrepreneur at a pitch event and offered to volunteer to design and build his prototype app. Due, in part, to the strength of this application, he was accepted into the Portland Incubator Experiment (P.I.E.) incubator program and invited to present at Web Summit. Further, this development has inspired my code school to partner with startups on an ongoing basis to provide students with real-world practice.
